Reflection of Sydney's first step to the real world

For four (4) months I had my OJT at Regional Training Center 5 and I can say I have learned so much from them.

On our first day of OJT I was really nervous; it's my first time to work in an office so it really made me nervous. I have no idea whom I'll be working with and if they're nice or whatever. But as the days pass by, I got the chance to get along with them well and they are really nice. They guided as well on what we have to do. I was really afraid that I'll make mistakes because I thought they'd get mad at me but no, they didn't even got mad they just said it's okay and everybody's not perfect people make mistakes, so are they. I was really thankful because I got accepted at their office. They are very understanding and generous. They don't let us starve. :)

But, in every beautiful story there's always a villain they say. So yes, there's this one employee at the office that really don't like us, the feeling is mutual though, we also don't like her. She's like in her 60's and she doesn't like us. She's always looking at us with her i-am-watching-you eyes and it's really annoying. It's like she's waiting for us to make mistakes it's like she wanted us out of the office. So another realization has caught my mind, not everyone will like you, there is always someone who'll contradict what you do and will find a way to make you look bad. But we just let her be, we were not there for her, we were not there to please her so we just let her do what she wants to show our respect for her because she's older than us, way older.

Disregarding the old woman that hates us, all of the people in the office were very nice and kind and generous to us so we're still very thankful. We will surely miss the office and the people there. :)

Day 67: Rainy Friday!

We didn't go to the office in the morning because we went to B.U  to take care of our clearances so we went to the office in the afternoon. When we arrived at the office only Mam Che and Mam Grannie were there because some of them went to Naga to attend the recognition of the trainees. When Sir Bong arrived, he brought ham burgers for us to eat, he is really so kind and friendly to us, he was also our driver when we  went to Naga.
After I think an hour after Sir Bong arrived, the employees arrived from Naga and got a pasalubong for us. They are all kind to us. ^_____^
When we're about to go home, the heavy rain poured which caused to not be able to go home so we stayed at the office until the rain subside. Since we have no umbrella, Sir Bong said that we should go with him since he has a car. They have also let us borrow an umbrella so that we won't get wet.

Day 65: JLC Graduation

Today was the graduation of the JLC (Junior Leadership Course) students of class 2014-01.

We were asked to take pictures using the DLSR camera of RTD since the people at the office don't know how to use it. I was asked to become the photographer but I told them that Ella is more experienced in using a DLSR cam than me so I appointed her to be the photographer na lang. And I am also kinda shy to walk around during the program.

After the graduation ceremonies, the graduates gave us a little treat. They bought snack for the visitors and for the employees. Rona and I was kinda full already even bec=fore the graduation treat because we ate "biniribid" that Manong Rambo brought because it's his birthday. Well, Ella wasn't able to eat biniribid because she's busy taking pictures during the graduation. HAHAHA! The graduates ordered one bilao of pansit, one box of cassava cake and C2 solo for drinks. :)

Day 64: Busy mode

Since the graduation of the JLC students will be tomorrow, the poeple at the office were kinda busy preparing. Mam Bong asked me to check all the subjects and highlight them so that it'll be easy for her to track if all the subjects were already taken. She also asked me encode and scan the grades. I also rewrite the grades on the grade sheet because the PPSC returned the grading sheets because the grades were written using a pencil, so I rewrote it, ALL.

Monday, October 13, 2014

Day 63: Not so busy body

Mam Bong was not around because she's on leave for a week and she will be back on the 15th. Even though she's not around she texted me to look for the Report of Rating of management arrest and exec code 546 in her file because she needs it.

In the afternoon, Mam Bong came to the office because she needs to rush some of the papers that needs to be sent to the PPSC office. She asked me to scan the ROR's and print schedule.

Since the graduation of JLC students is on the 23rd they are kind of busy bodies.

Day 61: Graduation Run

Tomorrow, there will be a Graduation Run for the graduating JLC (Junior Leadership course) students. Ate Rods said that it is a requirement for every Graduating student to complete the 15KM Graduation Run, starting from Tabaco to Camp General Simeon A Ola.

There will be six (6) stations and each station has a necklace with a number which will be given to the runners when they reach that station. So yeah, we have made necklaces with numbers, we made 67 number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 necklace for the 6 stations.

The runners also have their numbers. Runners who have heart disease has a heart sign on their numbers so that it'll be easy daw makita yung mga may sakit at mas dapat bantayan.

Day 60: System

Since we were scheduled on Friday to present our system, we need to double, triple, quadruple our time in revising and doing our system.

We revised our manuscripts and worked on our system, since we have nothing to do at the office.

Day 59: Pile of papers to work with

Mam Bong just came back from a seminar in Manila. Now that she's back we've got a pile of papers to work with.

Since the graduation of the JLC students is approaching, she needs to finish recording the grades. We helped her to record the grades on the grading sheet and then scan it on her computer. I encoded the grades to the excel after scanning the grading sheets, which she told me before, so I need not to be told again because I already know what to do.

While we're doing work, Mam Bong suddenly got dizzy and her blood pressure became high so she needed to go home already. She's always getting sick this past days. I hope she gets well soon.

September 29 - October 3: List of Things I did Part 3

These are the things I did from 29th of September till 3rd of October.

  1. Scanned files
  2. Recorded grades on the grading sheet
  3. Encode
  4. And checked exam papers

They have not given me anything to do but those that on the list. :)

Day 53: Condole

Today we went to Naga to condole with Mam Lou whose brother has died. :'(

The RTC 5 employees have planned to go to Naga today to visit Mam Lou whose brother died last September 23, 2014. But there was a sudden change of plans when Mam Ana changed her mind and decided not to go anymore because of the blazing heat and her blood pressure. So Mam Lene said we should go with them instead.

Before leaving the office, we first ate lunch at the office since the travel from Legazpi to Naga is two (2) hours long. We departed at 12:30 P.M and arrived in Naga at 2:00 P.M. At the SM Naga, Sir Bong was waiting for us.

When we arrived at the house of Mam Lou's brother, before we got out of the car, it rained so hard that got us stranded inside the car. We waited for the rain to stop before we went out or else we'll all get wet.

We stayed at the funeral for an hour and then we left. Before going home, Mam Lene said that we should stop by at the Basilica Minore. After lighting candles and praying at the Basilica we went to Camp Wenee Martillana to deliver a letter to Sir Borro.

We left Naga at 4PM. Since I live in Guinobatan, and it's on the way naman, they dropped me home so I didn't have to commute.

It was quite tiring because it was a long ride, but we kind of enjoyed the travel aside from the grief we shared for Mam Lou.

September 23 to 25: List of things I did Part 2

  1. Helped Mam Ludz check the documents if there were names without signature and high lighted the names  of the instructor in the schedule.
  2. Encoded the exams for Mam Bong and Mam Lene's class.
  3. Checked papers of previous exam

Monday, September 22, 2014

Day 49: Photoshop

There will be an upcoming PPSC event in Manila for the following so they are quite busy because from what I heard each Regional school shall have a booth at the event. Mam Lene asked me to edit the picture of RTD in photoshop because they need a 1x1 picture of RTD to submit at PPSC. And because RTD is not around, he's in Nabua, we looked for a picture of RTD that can be made into a 1x1 picture. Thankfully, we did find one so I did some editing on it and cropped it so that it'll look more like formal picture.

Good thing I watched tutorials on Photoshop before so I'm quite capable of photoshop editing. :)

September 8 to 16: List of things I did

  1.  I checked the weekly exam of the students of class 2014-02 Charlie in JLC (Junior Leadership Course).
  2. I computed the grades.
  3. Record the grades on the grading sheet
  4. And encoded it to excel.
  5. Scanned the Report of Rating (ROR)
I also did some editing on the Grading sheets because there was a mistake to where the instructor had signed. So Mam Bong told me to white it out.

September 4 and 5: Instruction Summary Reports!

Instruction Summary Report! The most tiring work to do! :3

On Thursday, Mam Lene asked us to check the ISR's of her students. It was quite many so we weren't able to finish it all, so by Friday we still got some checking to do.

After checking those ISR's I needed to drink medicine because of headache. The not-so-readable penmanship makes it harder to check.

I sure hope we've finished checking all ISR's, cos' I don't wanna check 'em anymore!

Monday, September 1, 2014

Day 32: TV time

Since we have no work to do, Mam Ana told us to watch tv instead so we will never get bored. :)

What a productive way to start the month! :3

Friday, August 29, 2014

August 26 - 29: BUCS Intramurals

IT Badminton Team :)

Supporting basketball Team (y

We were excused at the OJT because it's Intramurals:)

Friday, August 22, 2014

August 19 to 22: Revision

We started revising our manuscripts and database. Since the presentation is fast approaching we need to double our time in working on our thesis and system.

Monday, August 18, 2014

Day 23: Record Encode Print

We were asked to check exams and record the grades on the grading sheet. Then after checking and recording, I encoded it to the excel.

Friday, August 15, 2014

August 12 to 15: Encode Encode Encode

This week I've got nothing else to do but encode. I encoded grades, more grades, and more grades. :3

I was also asked to encode the letter for the President of PPSC for the expansion of the office. Expansion ba? I just knew that there's also a training center in Nierva, Nabua, Camarines Sur and they're sending a letter to allow them to use the training center there. RTD said that it'll be useful if the students will take their Militaristic course there.

Since some of the employees are already assigned in Nabua only the course coordinators and chief admin was left at the office. So it became quiet at the office.

They also gave us chocolates and ice cream for dessert. :))

Monday, August 11, 2014

Day 18: Finally! Electricity has come back!

Finally! May kuryente na ulit! Hello air conditioned office! :))

So because the electricity is back, Mam Bong asked us to scan files on her computer. Since it took ages before the electricity came back we have got a bunch of grading sheets to scan.

So yeah, hello work!

Good bye boring days! :)

Friday, August 8, 2014

August 5 to 8: No electricity pa rin!

Almost a month since the typhoon and still, there is no electricity! It's been weeks and we still have nothing to do at the office because there is no electricity nga.

Time flies so slow when you're not doing anything and it always feels like forever before 5pm arrives. Hayy.. If only there's electricity we'll never get bored and we will be busy enough to notice time.

Monday, August 4, 2014

Day 13: Second Month

It's our second month of OJT and we're somehow getting used to working at the office.

Mam Ana asked us to check the Instruction Summary Reports of her students. Checking ISR's is the most tiring task for me. It kinda brings me headache reading all of the ISR's.

While checking the ISR's, we ate our snack, which, I mentioned before is free, so lucky us, we got assigned in this office.

After doing things that should be done and it was already 5PM, we were already allowed to go home.

Thursday, July 31, 2014

Day 12: Encoding

Mam Ludz ordered me to encode, again, all the receipts spent from the materials used in the office. Yesterday I encoded the expenses for the month of June and today I encoded the expenses for the month of July.

It was almost lunch time and I'm still not finished encoding. During lunch break the generator was turned off so that it will not overheat. After eating lunch, we just rested for awhile while waiting for the generator to be turned on again.

When the generator was turned on I continued my work on the computer. When I finished encoding I printed it all and gave it to Mam Ludz.

Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Day 11: Generator at last!

The office borrowed a generator from one of the employees. Although, the generator was just small so it can only accommodate up to two computers only.

Mam Ludz asked me to encode the expenses summary of the office. She gave all the receipts that are to be encoded and summarized. After encoding the receipts, I encoded next the payroll of the construction workers renovating the rooms and barracks.

After encoding I printed it all and then gave it to Mam Ludz. And then we ate snack.

Monday, July 28, 2014

Day 10: Half Day OJT

It's been days since the generator broke off and there's still no electricity. Some of the employees were not around, some didn't came and some went home for awhile.

Mam Ana asked us again to record the DTR of the carpenters renovating the place.

After lunch Mam Lene, the chief admin, allowed us to go home already since there's nothing to do at the office.

Friday, July 25, 2014

Day 9: Questions..

The generator at the office is still broken. The employees were just sittin' around and chatting. While my group mates and I, we recorded the DTR just like what Mam Ana asked us to do.

Since there is no electricity and the people at the office were doing nothing, we have grabbed the opportunity to ask them some questions with regards to our thesis and system. We have also asked for some copies of the data and information needed.

Thursday, July 24, 2014

Day 8: Half day the office

Since the generator was broken, we just spent half day at the office.

Mam Ana asked us to record the DTR again. Even the employees at the office have nothing to do so they went home early after lunch. They have also allowed us to go home already.

After leaving the office, I went to the library to work on our thesis. I researched about other thesis and revised our Chapters.

Wednesday, July 23, 2014

Day 7: Generator broke down

There still no electricity at the office, in all of Albay actually, not just in the office, so,we were doing things manually. Since the generator can only produce power for only a number of computers,  some of us have nothing to do.

Mam Ana asked us again to record the DTR of the carpenters who were renovating some part of the school which were destroyed by typhoon Glenda.

After eating our lunch, some of the employees went back to their work. After an hour, the generator broke off so there's no electricity, no generator, nothing. Mam Lene told us to go home already because we have nothing to do anymore.

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

Day 6: Typhoon struck..

We don't have OJT for almost a week because of the typhoon Glenda. Since the typhoon was strong, the trees have fallen and damaged the electricity. Almost all of the electric posts were fallen leaving Albay nothing but darkness.

Since there is no electric power, the RTC 5 used generator for them to be able to continue working. Since generators have limited power, only a few computers were able to use. Mam Ana asked us to record the DTR of the carpenters manually to the paper.

After recording the DTR we have nothing else to do. We were sent home early in the afternoon because they said there's nothing for us to do at the office since there is no electricity.

Monday, July 14, 2014

Day 5: Hello Monday

We haven't got much to do today at the office. They didn't gave us anything to do so all we did was work on our thesis. Since tomorrow will be our proposal defense we need to prepare our presentation. We have discussed about our system and revised our Chapters 1 to 3. We have prepared our power point presentation and also the requirements needed for our proposal defense.

We have asked permission from them that we will not come to the office tomorrow because we will be having our defense and they agreed.

Good luck to me and my thesis mates! :)

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Day 4: Nothing much

We haven't got much to do today at the office. They didn't gave us anything to do so all we did was work on our thesis. Since tomorrow will be our proposal defense we need to prepare our presentation. We have discussed about our system and revised our Chapters 1 to 3. We have prepared our power point presentation and also the requirements needed for our proposal defense.

We have asked permission from them that we will not come to the office tomorrow because we will be having our defense and they agreed.

Good luck to me and my thesis mates! :)

Day 3: Networking cont..

Since the materials needed for our networking assignment has been bought yesterday it has given us less work to do. Now all we need to is set up the computers and configure them.

We then started working on the physical set up by connecting the computers to the router or hub. Since they already have an internet connection we just have to connect some of the computers that are not yet connected to the router. After all the computers were connected, we then configured the computers one by one starting from the RTD's computer which will serve as the server of all the computers.

After setting up and configuring, we taught the employees how to use it and how it works.

Tuesday, July 8, 2014

Day 2: Networking

Today was the second day of our OJT. We haven't got much to do in the morning because the people at the office were too busy because of the new enrolled students. My group mates and I just stayed out of their way and did our thesis. We have discussed about our system and checked our manuscripts.

In the afternoon, the Regional Training Director gave us something to do. He asked us if we can network all the computers at the office for them to be able to minimize the expenses and lessen the use of papers. He said, that instead of printing draft letters, the employees will just send it to his computer for checking and approval before printing.

He then asked us what materials is needed to be able to network all their computers. Since all the computers are Microsoft Windows, and it has a default for networking, all we need is just a LAN Cable and a router. RTD (Regional Training Director) told us to go to Legazpi and canvass the materials. After canvassing the materials, we went back to the office with the list of prices of the materials needed.

RTD asked one his employees to go to Legazpi and buy the materials that we need. It was already 5 PM when Sir Jules, the one who bought the materials, came back so RTD said that we can work on it tomorrow so that we will have something to do.

Monday, July 7, 2014

Day 1: First day of OJT :)

It's the first day of our OJT at Regional Training Center 5. I have no picture of myself, so I just took a stolen shot of Rona she was doing her work.

On the first day of our OJT we were introduced to some of the employees of RTC 5. We were assigned to our designated places and got our own tables. Such an amazing feeling to have our own table, it was like we're really on our real job. :)

After our short introduction, they have given us our first OJT task. They have asked us to check the exams of the students. After checking the papers, Mam Bong taught us how to computer the grades. We've transmuted the scores and then recorded it to the grading sheet. After checking the exams, Mam Ana asked us to check the Insruction Summary Reports of her students. Checking ISR's was so tiring. We have to check them one by one. Imagine reading such a very long reports with a not-so-readable pensmanship, oh my gosh headache! :'(

On the other hand, having our OJT at RTC 5 gave us a chance to spend less because we get free lunch and snack at the office. They cook lunch for the employees and they buy them snacks in the afternoon. Isn't it amazing? :D

In the afternoon, we were able to meet the Regional Training Director of RTC 5. We were really nervous. We have no idea what it's like to talk to a high rank policeman. We don't know if he's strcit or what. He asked us what school we're from and what course we're taking. After interviewing us, he asked us about the system that we're going to develop fro their office. We have explained to him everything and he seems like the type of person who understands what we're talking about. He even suggested his own ideas. He also said that we should also teach them how to use some of the applications in their computers so that they'd be able to use them as well.

To add things up, our first day of OJT was amazing. The students, even the high rank policemen having their schooling call us MAM. :)
